The day was in February 1909 Orie Day according to the ancient Igbo calendar.

Mgbe-Orie as she was called, her maternal home happened to be the then Nri Kingdom. She moved to Igbo Ukwu with her parents. While in Igbo Ukwu, he met a guy nicknamed (Nwa-amadi) whose name was Oji. They fall in love with each other. Oji had come from Uga, in the same present-day Anambra state. Oji father was in Igbo Ukwu for farming and became a well-known hunter. During the Biafran and Nigeria civil war, he was drafted into the Biafran army. Mgbe orie always go to a stream called Agwazi in Uga to pray for the safe return of Oji. This Agwazi stream is a stream which you are not allowed to go in with any metallic object. If you do, the monkey and other animals will attack you physically. She always goes to talk to the Gods to protect her Oji. The Agwazi River is said to have protected the town of Uga during the war, that Nigerian pilots flying warplanes could not see any house or people in Uga when they flew by. They will only see a big woman sitting in the middle of a big river. That saved Uga town from any big bombardment during the Nigeria-Biafra war. The rest of this story will continue…

At the end of the civil war, there was so much hardship, the kwashioko was heavy in the Igbo-land.

But there was a great act that Igbo people were doing. They started to welcome Biafran soldiers back into the fold of their native homeland. Those who have yam provided yam, those that have cocoyam were providing cocoyam to the soldiers. Most Igbo community villages, Umunna were helping with the little they had. Those who did not have houses were allowed to live in their neighbors’ houses for free. There was a great love in Igbo land during this rehabilitation for Igbos by Igbos. so to Day in memory of that unique time we the umuibeonline.com are calling all Igbos Worldwide to remember this unique natural kind gesture of Igbo’s inner genuine love to their fellow Igbos in need. That is who we are, we care, we protect, and we love our own. We want to remember January 15th every year as IGBO LOVE DAY henceforth. Please celebrate with friends and family. Send gifts to Igbo needy people and families, no matter how little. We cared for our own before that advent or modern religious belief style, we have something bigger that is natural in us, we first care for our own. Happy Igbo Love Day.
